I love trying new recipes and learning new tips. Recently, I received a copy of Dollars to Donuts: Comfort Food and Kitchen Wisdom from Route 66’s Landmark Rock Cafe to review. So, what did I think?
I tried out the Cheesy Baked Chicken Enchiladas recipe. I like the tips at the bottom saying you can use rotisserie chicken or leftover roasted chicken. It also suggests asking the deli for the heels of the giant cheese logs. They often cost a lot less and work just the same as block cheese to shred.
The dinner itself wasn’t so great. It called for a whole cup of cilantro and that was just way too much for the dish. But I am not discounting this book yet. The photos in the book make everything look delicious and it’s easy to follow. I am excited to try some of the dessert recipes for sure.
Overall, this is a nice book to add to your collection. The tips alone will help you cook smarter and more efficiently. As an amateur level cook, I think this book is good for people like me who have a lot to learn about cooking processes.
