img_12672Today I had an overdue reminder.  I might even call it divine intervention.

I was out for a morning run– later than usual.  On my way home I glanced over and there was a fawn, close to the road, staring at me with no startle reflex, not even considering retreating.  The doe was in the background observing me as well.  The next thing I knew another fawn stumbled out of the hedge and then another.

We stood staring for what seemed quite some time; I was intrigued by the comfort level of this little family.  Two cars drove by and the deer family still stayed and stared at me.  Finally I had the presence of mind to remember that the music I was listening to on my arm was actually my iPhone so I snapped a few shots.

This photo was the best and it was after our little communion session was over when they sauntered to my side of the road after I had walked down a few feet.

I smiled inside for my final mile and a half.  I felt so fortunate to have happened upon these “friends” and basked in the fact that I had not succumbed to putting my workout off.  It was as if I was meant to be there right at that time–a great reminder of all the surprises that can appear when you exercise outdoors and keep your eyes wide open.

So thank you my deer-friends for today’s reminder: EXPERIENCE the moment, whenever and wherever you are; eyes wide open, in the moment and communing with nature whenever possible.
