Chocolate, the beach, a good book… We each find things that calm our nerves and ease our minds.  Unfortunately, some are a bit unhealthier than others.  Consider my therapy - shopping!

Even before Christian Louboutin had any meaning to me, shopping was an obsession.  It’s something about the possibility of finding that amazing item – the treasure hunt of it all – that gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling.  Rough day in high school?  I went to Express and bought an outfit.  Weekend party in college?  I scoured T.J. Maxx and Steinmart for a cute top (a little less play money).  Tired of law school?  I went window shopping around the city (a LOT less play money).  Whether I intended to buy something or just wanted to be inspired, shopping has always served to clear my head.

To this day, if I feel frazzled or just a little blue, I’ll head to the Summit in Birmingham and walk around a few of my favorite stores.  Saks is usually quiet and always full of beautifully crafted clothing (think Milly, Tibi, Nanette Lepore).  I go to Anthropologie, on the other hand, more for the window displays and eclectic scenes created to showcase items.  So energizing.  The piece behind the register is always amazing – pay attention the next time you’re there!  I always leave feeling centered, as crazy as that sounds, and often with a new pair of shoes!

Find something that serves as your virtual “margarita” and mellows you out.  Hey, even an actual margarita or two is acceptable on occasion!
