They say that when it comes to advertising and TV shows, never work with a child or an animal because they’ll steal the show. The same can apparently be said for baby board books. Put in a bunch of cute pictures of pandas and I’m a goner.
The GOOD: A quick and easy read, the Busy Pandas board book is the perfect length for its purpose. Since pandas and their surroundings tend to be dark colored, and babies need to see bright colors too, there is a nice offset of bright text and the occasional color pop in a background. The pandas? Too cute for words.
The BAD: Not a thing.
MONEY MATTERS: From Tricycle Press, this new title retails for $6.95 and can be purchased from your favorite bookseller or online at Amazon. Amazon is currently running a 4-for-3 promotion, and this board book and a number of its companion books are included in the deal.
The MOM VERDICT
Cate says: Growing up, I was a sucker for stuffed animals. Can’t say that much has changed, and both of my kids have most definitely inherited that gene from me. When I was a kid, I was all about the penguins and pandas. Maybe it was a black and white thing? So beyond the fun rhyming text that is featured in this story, the adorable panda pictures will draw you in. You just want to put them in your pocket and take them home with you. My 10-month-old daughter is slowly learning about animals, and if you say “where’s the kitty?” she’ll look for one of our cats, so this was right up our alley.
