When I discovered the NYC Subway Line of clothing and accessories, I immediately thought of my sister.  As a former New Yorker, I think she’d get a kick out of this line.  It’s always nice to discover a clothing line that is inspired by your hometown turf, you know?

The inspiration for the products came from an actress riding the subway, and as she took notice of the brilliant graphic images that populate the subway environment one day, the line was born and quickly took off.  Worn by former President Bill Clinton, TLC’s Andrew Dan Jumbo and featured in countless movies and music videos (movies You Got Served and Take the Lead and magazines In Style and New York to name a few), it’s safe to say that the line is here to stay.

The GOOD: The kid’s pink t-shirt is a very vibrant color and the kid’s drawing of the subway, complete with subway logo wheels, is adorable.  There is a huge product list, and I’m sure at least one item highlighting one of your favorite NYC spots or modes of transportation.  The item is a true-fit size and the design held up beautifully in the wash.

The BAD: The items can only be purchased online and the shipping is a tad pricey (over $9 if I purchased just this shirt, and had it shipped to our NJ address, some 30 miles away).  Although there is a note for retailers to contact the company if they are interested in carrying the line, there is no mention of stores that do, so assuming that’s a work in progress.

DOING GOOD: Royalties from the sales of the NYC Subway line go to support the NY Transit Museum.

MONEY MATTERS: The kid t-shirt sells for $15.99.  Shipping varies by location and service chosen.

The MOM VERDICT

Cate says:  I love the line, and the uniqueness of it.  It’s perfect for the New Yorker, the wannabe, or the perpetual traveler who finds himself in the Big Apple more often than not.  With the holidays coming, these would make great gifts – unique, reasonably priced and something that you won’t see on every other person walking down the street.  If London is more your thing, then you’re in luck … they have a line of items celebrating that area as well.  Happy shopping!

P.S.  Stay tuned … hoodie review coming soon.
