When Madeline was a new baby, we went through a crazy amount of burp cloths.  A crazy amount.  I think I had a total of 24, and even doing the laundry often, we were still running out of clean ones.  Although I am more glad than I can say that we are out of that phase, we still use burp cloths a lot for basic cleanup when she’s eating, sniffling, as washcloths and the like.  So when I heard about the eco-friendly line at Itzy Ritzy, I was all ears.

The GOOD: The thing that I like absolutely the best?  The fabric is ultra, ultra soft (made from the environmentally friendly baby bamboo), which is exactly what you want when it’s going against your baby’s skin.  Heck, it’s what I want when it’s going against MY skin!  They have such a great variety of vibrant patterns that are perfect for boys and girls alike, it’s nice to find something outside of the usual bland, boring white ones.

The BAD:  They are a little bit pricey, as compared to the standard 10-packs of burp cloths that are more standard fare, but you’re paying for cool style and its environmentally friendly aspect.  Sometimes that’s totally worth a little bit of extra scratch.

MONEY MATTERS: A set of two burp cloths retails for $20 and can be purchased online and in specialty boutiques.

The MOM VERDICT

Cate says: It’s a slight splurge, no doubt, but you’re getting a product that you can feel good about.  When gift-wrapped, they are presented beautifully, and would be perfect at any baby shower, in a Christmas stocking, or just because.  The company set out to create a hip line and they have succeeded with flying colors, with their products even used by celebrity moms Nicole Richie, Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie.  Besides their burp cloths, they have many other products, including nursing covers, blankets and car seat covers.  I am totally lusting after the shopping cart covers, because of their generous sizing and fun patterns.  In the meantime?  Thumbs up from our house!
